Aleutian Baidarka

The storm-ravaged shores of the Aleutian island chain was the birthplace of this sophisticated long-range craft. The Aleuts developed naval engineering techniques a thousand years ago that modern naval architects have only discovered for themselves in the last hundred years. This boat has the ability to travel at great speeds for prolonged periods of time. Its articulated keel allows the hull to conform to the surface of ocean swells. Its bifurcated bow cancels out bow waves, allowing greater speed and control. This is the boat for those interested in longer adventures in a traditional skin boat. Once you are deep in those remote coves, you can feel the centuries slip away. This boat can be built as a double or even a triple.

These boats are sized to the individual using a traditional anthropometric construction method. Sizes and styles vary.

Materials: Ballistic nylon over a yellow cedar frame.

Specs are approximate: Length: 18’; Beam: 21”; Weight: 38 lbs
