DECK RAILINGS

We built this set of deck railings using Sapele mahogany posts, caps and handrails. Powder-coated aluminum brackets and stainless-steel fasteners join them to panels constructed with PVC-coated welded wire mesh set into rough-sawn Western red cedar frames.

The railing caps and handrails are finished with Cetol. The posts are finished with a product called ECO finish, which causes the tannins in the wood to oxidize, giving the surface a weathered look. The cedar is left raw to turn silver.,
