Copper riveting has probably been used in boat building ever since the copper nail was first conceived. The vikings used it. Japanese boatbuilders use it. It has stood the test of time. When used in a wooden boat it is one of the longest lasting, easiest to revitalize and nondestructive to replace fastening you can choose. The only drawback is the need to access both sides of the work you want to fasten at the same time as well as the sense that this would be a great time to start growing a third hand.
